Since 2011, the Deutschlandstipendium has been providing financial support to high-achieving and committed students from all over the world. Modelled after the principle of public-private partnership, businesses, foundations or private individuals sponsor young talent with a pledge of 150 euros per month. The Federal Government matches this amount with another 150 euros. The medium-term objective is to continuously increase the number of scholarships to include up to 8% of all students studying at German universities.

In addition to academic achievement, the criteria for selecting scholarship recipients include social commitment and personal achievements, such as a student overcoming challenges or obstacles in his or her social or family background.

Funding is normally granted for at least two semesters but may be provided for a maximum time which covers the standard period of study, in order to allow students to concentrate on studying. The scholarship is awarded without consideration of personal or parent income and does not count towards grants awarded under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAFöG).

Announcement and awarding of the Deutschlandstipendium is regulated by hdpk statutes referring to Deutschlandstipendium.

The SRH Hochschule der populären Künste (hdpk) regularly assigns 2 Deutschland-scholarships.

FAQ:

Who can apply?
All students enrolled at the hdpk irrespective of their fields of study and their semesters may apply independent of their origin and their nationality.

What is the amount per month?
A total of 300.- € is available per recipient, with 50% each coming from private sponsors and the Federal Government.

How long will this support be available?
Scholarships are initially granted for one year. Continued support is possible, as long as sufficient funds can be raised from private sponsors and the Federal Government. At intervals of two semesters the university reviews whether the scholarship holder still meets the award criteria and whether private funding will continue to be available. At the very latest, funding will end with the last month of the recipient’s enrolment at the hdpk.

When will payments begin?
Payments will be made with the beginning of Winter term on 1 October.

How many scholarships are available?
Currently, one (1) scholarship is available. As soon as we have signed up additional sponsors, up to two more scholarships will be awarded.

Who decides on the recipients?
Scholarship recipients are selected by an independent commission made up of university teachers.

The following documents need to be submitted:

FAQ:

How long are sponsors expected to pledge to the Deutschlandstipendium?

The minimum period is 12 months. In order to create sustainable relationships between sponsors, university and recipients we do however recommend that sponsors commit for the duration of a standard period of study, i.e. a maximum of 7 semesters.

As a sponsor, will I be able to influence the use of funds or the selection of recipients?

In accordance with the regulations of the Deutschlandstipendium, all funds must be used for scholarships. Under certain circumstances it is however possible to earmark your contribution for specific fields of study. Compliant with regulations, recipients will be selected by an independent committee; sponsors may participate in an advisory capacity, but without voting power.

Which are the criteria for selecting recipients?
The Deutschlandstipendium is a merit-based scholarship, meant to recognise excellent performance, artistic and design talent and social commitment. Personal and biographical circumstances are also taken into consideration.

Is it possible for sponsors to contact recipients?
On the condition of the recipient’s agreement, it is desirable for the sponsor and the recipient to meet and to develop a relationship. This does not constitute any legal claim to such contact. In general, students are just as interested in meeting `their´ sponsors as vice-versa. As a sponsor, you will be welcome to attend events and workshops, during which you will be able to meet students and teachers.

Are sponsors permitted to advertise their involvement?
This is also desirable. You might want to use the Deutschlandstipendium-logo on your flyer or your website, stating “Company XYZ sponsors a Deutschlandstipendium-scholarship at the SRH Hochschule der populären Künste (hdpk)”.
