Application Process

Step by step

STEP ONE: Nomination by the International Office of your Home University:

Contact the International Office at your home university to obtain a nomination to study abroad at SRH Hochschule Berlin. They will inform you of the requirements for the participation in the exchange programme, and inform us once you have been nominated.

Nominations from partners have to reach us via email by the following deadlines:

  • May 15 for the following fall/winter semester
  • October 15 for the following spring/summer semester 

STEP TWO: Application to hdpk  

Once nominated by your home university, the hdpk International Office will send you further information about our online application process approx. one month before the application deadline. With the online application you need to upload the following documents in English or German:

  • Passport Copy (or: only EU students without visa needs: Copy of ID): valid, with picture and data pages
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Current Transcript of Records
  • Proof of Sufficient Skills of the Language of Instruction at hdpk (see further details in FAQ section below)

The online application and all application documents need to be submitted by the application deadline:

  • May 31 for the following fall/winter semester
  • October 31 for the following spring/summer semester

Please note that only complete applications will be accepted and late applications may not be considered.

STEP THREE: Receive your Acceptance Documents

Once your application has been found complete and eligible, you will receive your official Acceptance Letter (in English) as well as a “Zulassungsbescheid” (in German). Both documents will be scanned and emailed to you. You will need the “Zulassungsbescheid” for the visa process should you require a study visa for Germany. In order to help you prepare for your semester(s) abroad, we will also send you our Student Welcome Guide which contains useful information about visa matters, health insurance, accommodation, transportation and other relevant issues.

STEP FOUR: Complete Your Visa Process

Citizens of the European Union, of EEA states or of Switzerland may enter Germany and study here without a visa. All others must apply for an entry visa for study purposes at the German Embassy in your home country or your country of permanent residence BEFORE coming to Germany. Please contact the German Embassy to find out whether or not you need a visa. They will also be able to inform you about the visa application process, rules and regulations as well as all other related information. Keep in mind that visa applications usually take several weeks or even months to complete so the earlier you apply the better. STEP FIVE: Make Your Course Selection

After the application process, we will be in touch with you regarding your course choices. Once finalized on our end, you will receive information about the classes, which will be available to exchange students during the semester you applied for. You will then be asked to complete either an Erasmus+ Learning Agreement (for Erasmus+ students only; template available from your home university) or the Course Selection Form for Incoming Exchange Students (non-ERASMUS+ students only, see Download section). Before submitting it, please discuss your course choices with the Academic Coordinator at your home university.
